western mediterranean

The taste of sweet green olive oil and fresh ripe tomatoes, the sound of carefree children laughing on sun drenched beaches, the sight of myriad yachts at anchor in picturesque harbours…

These are but a few sights and scenes of the Western Mediterranean. Replete with sparkling capitals, ancient civilizations and cultured ambience, it is an incredibly vivid world of mythical lands and tranquil seas, soaring mountains, medieval villages, private coves and sun struck beaches. Wherever you may wander on Royal Clipper or Star Flyer, you will discover the special magic of the Mediterranean that has enchanted travelers for millennia. On our flagship Royal Clipper, choose from 7, 10 and 11 night itineraries from Rome’s port of Civitavecchia and Venice, which include sundrenched Sicily, stops throughout the volcanodotted Aeolian Islands, routes along Italy’s everromantic Amalfi Coast and the alluring ports of the Croatian Archipelago and Dalmatian Coast. Star Flyer will sail from Monaco and Cannes, plying the routes of the Genoan traders, offering an enticing menu of choices ranging from 7-night cruises to the classic ports of the French and Italian Rivieras, celebrated by movie stars and world travelers, to explorations of the Tyrrhenian and Ligurian coasts, where dancing waters and white sails frame a backdrop of tall mountains and castle-protected ports. And finally, for true connoisseurs of spectacular sailing, our Grand Cruises aboard Royal Clipper, Star Flyer and Star Clipper offer Mediterranean segments that range from Athens and Istanbul to Spain to Africa and the Canary Islands. These are a prelude or finale to our much-loved transoceanic voyages.

The Star Clipper is one of a fleet of 3 of these beautiful ships based on the old Tea Clippers. When the sails are at full mast there is something very majestic about these vessels and to have them as a luxury yacht for your enjoyment offers something totally unique in the cruising world. If you’re a keen sailor you can actually get involved with the sailing aspects.

For most of us it’s an opportunity to relax as you are taken to some of the most remote and inaccessible islands in Asia, which regular cruise ships would never get close to. At 115 metres in length carrying a maximum of 170 people, this is boutique cruising at its best.

Cabins

Accommodation comes in 6 categories, starting at the top of the tree with the Owners Cabin, a half moon suite in the stern of the ship. Complete with whirlpool bath and port hole views both sides and also in the ceiling for stargazing, this is the pinnacle of luxury in the Yacht cruising world.

Categories 1-6 are in ascending order with 1 being the best. These lead in cabins also boast a whirlpool bath with the rest all having a shower, being slightly smaller and with a different view or position. All cabins have are en-suite, are air-conditioned and have a TV/ DVD (not cat 6) plus wardrobe space. Most are outside cabins with sea views.

Dining

Dining on board any cruise ship these days is normally an immensely satisfying experience but on Star Clipper you’ll find the range of food on offer enhanced by the finesse and small touches made possible when catering for a smaller amount of passengers.

Continental breakfast is available with croissants, toasted English muffins or sweet Danish pastries and as you’re in the tropics you may can enjoy a large array of fresh local fruit. Otherwise indulge in a full English breakfast of crisp bacon, grilled sausage and omelettes cooked to order in the dining room. At lunch, a sumptuous buffet of seafood, salads and grilled favourites is laid out for you to savour.

If the day includes a stop at one of the private islands en-route, you might also be treated to a succulent outdoor barbecue on shore. When evening comes, the elegantly appointed dining room becomes the setting for the chef’s finest culinary presentations, designed to please the eye and the palate, complemented by a selection of equally fine wines.
