rambagh palace jaipur
rajasthan
The Rambagh Palace Hotel in central Jaipur is the epitome of old Rajasthani palaces converted into luxury hotels. Built in 1835 it was refurbished in 1925 as a Royal guesthouse and was the home of the Jaipur royal family until 1957 when the Maharaja converted it in a luxury hotel. Now managed by Taj hotels it maintains a standard and class which is unrivalled in central Jaipur and benefits from having 47 acres of grounds which alone, makes it fairly unique.
ROOMS:
The 79 rooms and suites are exquisitely appointed in an elegant colonial style with some classic Indian influences. All have very high ceilings and the standard (luxury) rooms all have a balcony and a large bathroom with very much art deco design. The overall room size for these luxury rooms is c. 60m2 and they really are very generous and extremely well kept. You will find all the facilities you’d expect in the rooms including air conditioning, satellite TV , mini-bar, seating area, balcony and DVD player.
There are various suites in the hotel, such as The Peacock Suite and the Suryavanshi which have large open plan rooms with big sofas and armchairs and views to different areas. In total they are all over 120m2 and make a stay in this special hotel even more memorable.
Dining:
The formal dining hall of Suvarna Mahal serves authentic Indian cuisine in grand surroundings while the more relaxed all day dining option of The Rajput offers international and Indian fayre. The tables spill out onto the cloisters and beyond that onto the perfectly manicured lawns to give al fresco dining options in the evening after the blazing heat of the day has subsided.
Towards the entrance of the hotel, you will find an old (but perfectly restored) steam engine with 4 dining carriages lining up against a specially made platform. This unique dining experience (aptly named “Steam”) is great fun and completely unique. It is very laid back and the food complements this with an full international menu with anything from burgers to pizza to salads and steak.
Before dinner, it is almost compulsory to visit the famous Polo Bar, a little further down the same cloister. Brimming with history, trophies, paintings and photos all about the sport of princes, the bar evokes a bygone era when polo playing teams would converge on Jaipur to win the various cups on offer. The bar itself serves every cocktail imaginable, beer, wine, cognacs, champagne and indeed almost anything you want, along with bar snacks and canapés offered complimentary.
