An hour north of Jaipur you will find the charming 450 year old Samode Palace.  Restored in 1987 by the sons of the Dynasty that has owned the palace for centuries, its well kept walls and steps welcome you to a bygone era. Its delightful courtyards and stately palace rooms give a real sense of what this place was like four and a half centuries ago.

The village lying just below is a lovely cobbled street full of shop keepers and laughing children and is a far cry from the large crowds of the big cities.

The fort perched above the palace is very well preserved and provides yet another iconic view up and if you want to climb the 386 steps, an awesome view down the valley.

Rooms:

There are 3 room types – Deluxe, Deluxe Suite and Royal Suite.  All are in very original décor  and start at c. 45m2. The bathrooms are art deco black and white tiled with beautiful art deco mirrors. All have luggage space and the 4 Royal Suites benefit from an enourmous open plan room with antique furniture generously dotted around the room.

All rooms come with air conditioning and fans, mini bar, hair dryers, separate power showers, antique roll top baths and much more. Some have balconies and most have views to the countryside.

Dining:

There are 2 restaurants here. One is a buffet style offering mainly Indian cuisine but breakfast can be continental or even a full English (and the bacon is good, our editor being a cured pork enthusiast !). The second restaurant is a la carte and offers a variety of Indian and Western dishes. A Prawn Marsala dish was excellent and a wide range of Indian breads also vey good.
