Maldives
We have recently added the Maldives to our portfolio, partially because it connects with Sri Lanka or India very easily, but most importantly because these islands make up arguably the best beach destination in the world. Very few places in Asia have the calm, shallow seas that lap the beach gently, creating a huge swimming pool that also teams with sea life. This makes it a scuba diving paradise as well as a place where each island is its own Robinson Crusoe type retreat, where you can feel totally isolated from the outside world.
Aside to enjoying total relaxation, whether in the Spa or just gazing out over the endless ocean, you could try your hand at deep sea fishing or sailing on a restored Dhoni, the traditional and unique style of boat used in these parts for centuries.
The Islands do have an infrastructure, mainly based on the capital island of Male, but the beauty of this destination is in the outlying atolls, these extinct and sunken volcano peaks now barely breaking the water line where they used to tower majestically over the surrounding area. How the islands came to be in the first place is fascinating but the result of millions of years of geographical evolution that you see today is a true wonder of the natural world and a must to visit at some time in ones lifetime.
