Location
This world-renowned health resort is Sri Lanka’s oldest and most established Ayurvedic centre, situated right on the beautiful beach at Beruwela, on Sri Lanka’s western coast approximately 2 hours from Colombo airport.
Rooms
The resort has undergone recent renovation and there are 6 categories of rooms, 75 in total; a few of these are air-conditioned, although air-conditioning is not recommended for those undertaking Ayurvedic treatments. All rooms have en-suite facilities. There are no televisions in the rooms, in keeping with your stay being a totally peaceful time and in order to benefit from quiet reflection. Many guests are travelling on their own; it is your choice whether to spend time alone (or with your partner/family) or socialise in a larger group.
The rooms themselves, having just been refurbished, are very comfortable and simply furnished with wooden beds and dressing tables, and white linen that blows in the breeze once you open your shutters to the views of the ocean that most rooms have. There are even newer rooms that are circular in shape, almost on the beach itself with small verandas to sit on and while away the day.
Ayurveda
The Ayurvedic centre benefits from 20 years' experience. When you arrive you will have an assessment by the Ayurvedic doctor and then an individual treatment plan will be designed for you. Ayurvedic medicine focuses on the cause of disorders rather than just the symptoms. Many ailments can be relieved including: arthritis, skin conditions, nervous disorders, digestive complaints, sinusitis, and conditions caused by stress. Treatments may include oil massages, Shirodara (an extremely relaxing treatment where oil is dripped onto the ‘third eye' area (forehead), herbal baths and acupuncture, amongst others. You will also be recommended to follow an Ayurvedic diet throughout your stay. The recommended length of stay, for effective
results is 2 weeks. For more lasting effects, including weight loss, 3-4 weeks is recommended.
Yoga is included free of charge (as is meditation) and is considered an excellent complement to Ayurvedic medicine and healing. Traditional Hatha Yoga is practised with Pranayama (breathing).
Enjoy a life-changing couple of weeks combined with an exotic beach holiday.
