Location

This totally unique hotel is situated close to where Sri Lanka’s famous stilt fishermen hark from, and not far from the fort city of Galle. Transfer time is 4.5 hours from Colombo airport, and will give you a great taste of Sri Lanka – your eyes will be glued to the windows!

Visited once, you will surely want to return to The Fortress as often as possible. Contemporary chic fused with Sri Lankan heritage, this hotel has got everything right. Upon entering the huge gates you will be greeted with an awesome view of the Indian ocean through the splendid open air recepton area. Whisked straight to your room (no check-in at reception here) you can unwind for a while in super funky surroundings before heading to the ultra-cool bar for a drink and then off to dinner. Whether you choose fine dining or not, the impeccable cuisine will delight. From the smoothies to the main dishes, everything on the menu exceeds expectations.

Rooms

All 49 fantastic rooms feature 7ft by 7ft super king beds, state of the art plasma screens and Bose DVD players. There are 5 categories of rooms – we would totally recommend the 2-storey ocean loft rooms with their indoor plunge pool and day beds
– although all categories of rooms will not fail to please.

Spa

The Spa combines modern surroundings with ancient Ayurvedic treatments. Let The
Fortress' Ayurvedic doctor diagnose your ‘dosha' or body type and then recommend treatments which are suitable for you – obviously the more treatments you have the more beneficial it will be. Western treatments are also available.

Inspired by the Dutch Fort design, there are five distinct styles of guest rooms and residences, each creating sensual living spaces with a naturally modern twist. All are designed with either private courtyards or balconies, with views onto the magnificent gardens, water features or golden beaches out to the Indian Ocean .

11 Fortress Rooms - 65 sqm.

The Fortress Rooms feature a super king 7ft by 7ft bed dressed in Egyptian cotton and an open plan bathroom with rainfall shower and bath. Rooms open out onto your own courtyard or garden balcony. A cutting-edge entertainment system and designer fittings include plasma screen, Bose DVD and sound system, espresso machine, air-conditioning, overhead fan, private bar, day bed, in-room safe and IDD telephone.

12 Beach Rooms - 70 sqm.

Located on the ground floor. Views into the gardens, beach and the Indian Ocean beyond. Highlights of these rooms include the open plan bathroom with large bath and split-level living area.

18 Ocean Rooms - 70 sqm.

Similar to the Beach Rooms, the Ocean Rooms are located on the upper floor of The Fortress and feature high vaulted ceilings. Guests also have the added bliss of enjoying a jacuzzi bath whilst taking in the magnificent views.

6 Ocean Lofts - 140 sqm.

The design of these split-level rooms creates a one-of-a-kind experience on each of their two separate floors. Guests enter into an oversized living room with indoor plunge pool, inviting day bed, plasma screen and Bose DVD sound system. The upper floor houses the bedroom, showcasing a designer bed adorned in soft Egyptian cotton and a sumptuous day bed. The stunning upstairs bathroom features both rainfall and wall showers.

2 Fortress Residences - 240 sqm.

The ultimate in sensual living spaces, The Fortress Residences are both on the upper floor of The Fortress and each feature two bedrooms and outdoor dining deck. Each offers guests astounding experiences, with a private cantilevered infinity edge pool to enjoy magnificent views of the coastline. Guests staying in these residences are pampered by their 24-hour personal butler, catering to their every whim.
