Location

Clinging to the hillside in the village of Miyanoshita in the Hakone area, Ginyu has one of the most beautiful views of any hotel in the area, virtually uninterrupted across the valley. From Miyanoshita station you can take the quaint Hakone Tozan railway through the valley to Gora to continue your exploration of the Hakone region by cable car and rack rail. Tokyo is an hour and a half away by train, including a couple of changes.

Rooms

There are 20 rooms in total, with 4 styles and themes, set over 4 floors. There are Western and Japanese style available and all rooms have a dining area and private open air bath/ onsen on the terrace and the main accommodation is generous with an average of 50m2.

The rooms are all well equipped and have some great natural designs and touches. All come with TV, phone, sofa, chairs, air-conditioning/ heating, great bathroom (some with copper sinks), a Yukata and sandals to wear during your stay, separate sitting area, mini bar and safe.

Dining

Dining at Ginyu is done in traditional ryokan style and served in the room. With such dishes as “Foie gras rolled eggplant topped with caviar” you soon get the picture of the standard of cuisine this ryokan produces with head chef Kotaro making sure the finest ingredients and purchased daily from the surrounding area. A typical dinner will see you getting through 16 courses of wonderfully prepared food but you will not be overly full, the light and easily digestible dishes delivering a perfect combination of taste and hunger satisfaction.

Spa / Onsen

The hotel has 3 different bathing areas, each with indoor and outdoor onsen, 2 with sauna attached also. All have great views over the hills and one is set away from the hotel right on the edge of the valley which is stunning.

There is a great little Spa here with 2 rooms. One small and very private and another area next to a large window where you can get a wide view of the surrounding countryside, if you have not been lulled into a deep sleep by your therapist.. They offer body treatments, facials and reflexology and it is a very peaceful environment, being virtually the only facility in this whole floor.

All in all, they have got both Spa and Onsen very well covered here and it makes for a great place to relax after a days sightseeing, or just stay here all day and unwind.

Overall

This excellent Spa and Onsen combination coupled with top level service and a great view make this a very complete Ryokan where you could easily spend a few days relaxing and taking in the local scenery and sights. Book early though – they are often full a year in advance... .
