Location

Just half an hour or so from Trivandrum airport, in a prime position for exploring Southern Kerala is the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort.

General

The Somatheeram has been awarded the accolade of ‘’Best Ayurvedic Centre’’ by the Department of Tourism, 7 times. A Heritage Ayurvedic resort, it has a wonderful position above a huge stretch of sandy beach which is just a 1 minute walk away, or less if your room is down at beach level.

The healthy Ayurvedic restaurant features a huge list of options, and you also have the choice of eating in your room if you are looking for a little solitude. With tonnes of experience, the friendly staff will make you feel at home and take you through your treatment programme step by step.

 

Rooms

There are 6 categories of rooms, ranging from Standard Cottages to the Sidhartha Deluxe Suite. All rooms have gorgeous wooden furniture, some of the higher up rooms have the most amazing views over the beach which stretches as far as the eye can see. Point of note: there are a lot of steep steps at this resort so it may not be suitable for those who have difficulty walking. Also, there is no air-conditioning in the rooms, due to the fact that Ayurvedic treatments work best when pores are kept open.

Spa

As far as the Ayurvedic treatment centre itself is concerned, the chief Physician here is the renowned Dr Raman, who is the former Ayurveda Director, government of Kerala. Dr Raman or one of his colleagues will greet you for a consultation and you will then begin a programme of treatments focusing upon the preventative aspects of therapy as well as curing certain ailments. Packages here include: slimming, rejuvenation, and beauty care. According to Ayurveda, the monsoon season is the most suitable time for treatments, although any time of year is beneficial. Yoga and Meditation are also offered, including chakra meditation.
