Location

We are pretty certain that Surya Samudra is unlike any other hotel you will have visited. Starting with the swimming pool carved out of the rock-face, the view which will leave you speechless, to the fresh fish cooked to order, never stored, this place is special. It is very difficult to give this hotel a rating because, in terms of location, individuality and tranquillity, it is almost impossible to beat. It has been rated 4* purely because there are no mod cons such as televisions in the rooms – this is a conscious decision by the hotel as televisions would ruin the back to nature feel of the place and ruin the peaceful atmosphere.

Rooms

Surya Samudra commenced life as a holiday home in the 1980's, and has now escalated to a boutique hotel of 21 individual cottages. 6 of these have air-conditioning so please mention if you require this when booking.

Some of the cottages are close to the beach, and all cottages have open-air bathrooms and verandas.

A particular favourite is the ‘Octogan', close to the swimming pool and the closest to the sea atop the rocky headland; open up all 8 sides, windows and doors, for an amazing panoramic view and cool breeze..

 

Spa

In addition there is a great Ayurvedic centre offering authentic treatments but the style is a hybrid of Western, Ayurveda and even some Turkish massage influence. The Spa is brand new and beautifully designed on different levels. The 14 day + treatment plans are effective, particularly the back and spine therapy and there is a doctor on hand offering consultations. The other treatment plans revolve around stress management, detox and weight loss. Yoga and meditation are also available.
