Location
Upon arrival you immediately sense that there is something unique and special about Tanjong Jara. The gorgeous beach offers panoramic views of the South China Sea and occupies a stretch of the unspoilt east coast which is undeveloped and seriously underrated.
Dining
There are 2 restaurants here; the Di Atas Sungei, a unique place where there is no menu - just let the resident chef, Ann, advise you as to what she has bought at the market that day. The other restaurant is Nelayan, close to the beach and the Spa. Another evening dining option, for a limited number of guests is Steam-boat dining; this option is a must, although make sure that you are hungry.
If you do feel like exploring during your stay, other diversions apart from the Spa and the beach include: cooking classes, a visit to the Dungun morning or night market, an eco-cruise, jungle trekking, cycling tours to local villages, walks to the highest waterfall in the region or golf at one of the three nearby golf courses. For those divers amongst you, or those interested in snorkelling, the Tengol Island/Kapas site is said to be fantastic and this excursion, rife with marine life, is not to be missed. Kayaking and windsurfing is also available. (Water sports are available March to end October).
Rooms
The 99 rooms are built in traditional Malay style and there are 3 categories: Bumbung (upstairs), Serambi (ground floor with a partially covered terrace) and the Anjung rooms, which all have an outdoor bathtub. The rooms are exceptionally spacious and benefit from their own luggage room and walk-in wardrobes. The Anjung rooms, set amidst tropical gardens, all sea facing, are excellent value
for money and very highly recommended.
Spa
The award-winning Spa is set in a beautiful complex of gardens away from the busier areas of the hotel. It has a unique layout of 7 magnificent treatment pavilions which are very private and huge in size. Here you will find the winner of the 2006 award for “Best spa therapist”, (Pak Yahya) - you can request him for your treatments, but be warned he does get booked up. The authentic Malay treatments which are practised here, have contributed to the Spa Village at Tanjong Jara being awarded the “Most Innovative Spa In The World” by Tatler 2007. The spa menu may look a little unfamiliar, but it is full of heavenly surprises! Each treatment begins with a Malay flower bath ritual and you are handed your own batik to wear, which you can keep afterwards. A traditional Mandi Bunga procession takes place every day,
part of the hotel's ritual to enhance the Malay healing journey. There is also the opportunity to kickstart your day with Senaman Indera Deria (similar to yoga).
Whilst you are here you must get up early to watch the sun rise over the sea - nature at her sensational best. Tanjong Jara offers you a truly Malay experience.

The Nelayan
Open for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is nestled along the shoreline and offers a selection of light meals during lunch and its specialty in the evenings is seafood. The Nelayan offers a delightful gourmet experience set amongst a relaxing and informal atmosphere. The resort has its own fishermen who beach in front of the restaurant between 1.00pmand 2.00pm daily, with their "catch of the day”. Our tag-line "from the sea to the grill -our catch of the day could not be fresher”, says it all! Nelayan in Malay means 'Fisherman'.
